Our interdisciplinary research team cooperating with experts and specialists from Asseco Data Systems S.A. has just completed the building of an IT platform for testing the competences of research and administrative staff in the science and higher education sector in Poland as part of the implementation and research initiative of the University of Silesia in Katowice entitled “ICRK – think tank for the development of key competencies of the Polish academic staff of the future”, financed by the programme of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education DIALOG.

The tool has been prepared on the basis of a unique model of 36 competences identified as important for the implementation of processes improving the research excellence of the university and strengthen its position on the international arena. These processes include: acquiring resources for research/artistic works, conducting high-quality research/artistic works, publishing research results as well as commercialising results of research and development works.

Therefore, the project team enters the key phase of the project, getting ready to conduct quantitative and qualitative research in leading Polish universities, in cooperation with local coordinators.

Each participant of the study will receive a report containing an individual result along with a set of guidelines regarding potential directions of competency development included in the profile. The aggregate results will be subject to statistical analysis, the results of which will be used to develop recommendations for the development of key competences of the research and administrative staff in the science and higher education sector in Poland.

Works on the IT platform lasted from 5 May to 25 September 2021. In total, 40 meetings of the team, whose members are representatives of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Staff Development (ICRK), were organised: Prof. Barbara Kożusznik, the Director of the Centre; Olaf Flak, PhD, DSc Eng. Assoc. Prof.; Adrian Pyszka, PhD; Barbara Smorczewska, PhD; Małgorzata Chrupała-Pniak, PhD; Katarzyna Więcek-Jakubek, Michał Fafiński, Grzegorz Filipowicz, PhD, Anna Węgrzyn, and Anna Olender-Staśkiewicz.
