The 2nd edition of the ‘Mobility | Science’ programme has been resolved. Overall, 21 applications from 13 disciplines carried out at the University of Silesia were submitted to the programme. 12 winners have received funding under the programme, including 4 from the Faculty of Social Sciences, 3 from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, 3 from the Faculty of Humanities, and 2 from the Faculty of Science and Technology. The expenses related to research internships are going to be financed by the Research Excellence Initiative programme.
One of the parts of the application assessment was the aspect related to a scientific unit the applicant plans to do their internship in. Half of the winners intend to do their internships under the guidance of outstanding scientists in the top 200 research units of the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities – ARWU, including such universities as: the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or the University of Liverpool. One of the financed research internships takes place at the University of Trieste, a partner university of the Transform4Europe Alliance. The programme includes internships lasting at least 60 days.
The programme is to support the mobility of research staff of the University of Silesia, knowledge transfer, and the development of scientific skills of the employees. Doing research internships in international research units is the backbone of establishing new forms of collaboration, including with partner universities of the T4EU Alliance.
The university is to allocate almost PLN 0.5 million for the funding of the 2nd edition of the programme. The maximum amount of funds that were granted to a researcher from the University of Silesia funding a scientific internship, including the costs of travel, accommodation, domestic per diem, amounts to PLN 50,000. Within one year of completing the scientific internship, the winners are obliged to submit an application for a research project at one of the domestic agencies and to prepare a publication prepared during their stay in a foreign unit. Alternatively, the winners may submit an application for a research project under any Horizon Europe call for proposals, as a leader or a partner.
