Streszczenie:
Infrared and Raman spectroscopy are standard techniques for the study of vibrations
in molecular systems and condensed matter. The lecture will remind how the corresponding
spectra can be obtained and analysed, what are their limitations in probing different
vibration modes, in which situations these methods may provide combined or complementary
results. Theory approaches to describe infrared and Raman spectra will be considered,
and selection rules based on the group theory will be explained. Finally, practical examples
of calculation of spectra from within model approaches and from first principles will be given.
