Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Łyda is a linguist. He graduated in English Studies in 1986 and started to work in the Institute of English Philology (later the Institute of English), the Faculty of Philology, the University of Silesia in Katowice. In the years 1998–2008, he was Deputy Director and in the years 2008–2016 — Director of the Institute and Head of the Department of Translation Studies. He was also Director of the Postgraduate Studies for English Translators and the Postgraduate Studies: Transl@tor: information technologies supporting translation.
Former member of the Linguistics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), the Applied Linguistics Commission at the Linguistics Committee PAN, and current member of the International Society of Applied Psycholinguistics and the European Association of Languages for Specific Purposes.
Member of the Team of Humanities and expert in the Polish Accreditation Commission and the University Accreditation Commission.
His research interests include translation theory and practice, discourse analysis, especially academic discourse analysis, psycholinguistics and corpus linguistics.
Author of above 100 publications: monographs, academic articles and edited volumes. Supervisor of over a dozen doctoral dissertations.
