Krystyna Warchał, doktor habilitowany nauk humanistycznych w dyscyplinie językoznawstwo, adiunkt w Instytucie Językoznawstwa Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach. Prowadzi badania z zakresu pragmatyki komunikacji, lingwistyki tekstu, analizy dyskursu, w szczególności dyskursu specjalistycznego, i translatologii, często korzystając z narzędzi językoznawstwa korpusowego. Jej zainteresowania badawcze obejmują dyskurs akademicki i polsko-angielskie studia porównawcze w tym zakresie, analizę gatunków oraz modalność w języku. Zajmuje się także przekładem tekstu literackiego i naukowego oraz językowymi mechanizmami komicznymi.

Research interests:
Krystyna Warchał works in the area of text linguistics, genre analysis, linguistic pragmatics, and discourse analysis. Her particular focus is on communication in science and, in a broader perspective, science communication. Her research interests include academic discourse and Polish-English contrastive studies, English as an international language of science, and epistemic modality. She is also interested in translation studies, in particular, academic translation, and linguistic humour. In her research, she often uses the tools of corpus linguistics. She has recently been involved in research projects related to changes in Polish academic discourse practices and multilingualism in academic communication, especially in the context of globalisation, internationalisation of science and higher education, and selected aspects of science policy.
