On the 25th of April, the #USil Career Day took place. #USil Career Day was an online event for academics from all over the World and anyone interested in working at the University of Silesia in Katowice. We have gathered useful information about our University and recruitment and employment procedures on the event website, which is still available. Then, during the live online event, we spoke with our foreign employees, who talked about their work at the University of Silesia and their experience of Polish culture, providing precious first-hand experience to all considering coming to work with us.
During the first part of the meeting, we asked three foreign employees from different departments about what their work in their units looks like and what surprised them about Polish culture. We have also asked them to tell us about their research. We listened to the fascinating stories about how nature returns to the spoil heaps, how people thought about animals in the Byzantine Empire, what neutrinos are, and how to research them. Then, we have the HR Specialist about tips that candidates for academic positions may find helpful when invited to the second stage of the recruitment process.
In the second part of the event, we focused on the University and Katowice – one of the four cities of the University of Silesia, where it has its headquarters. First, you could listen to a presentation about the recently opened spinPLACE – the University’s newly renovated space for collaboration with the university environment; then, we could learn what the European City of Science 2024 is and what events are connected with this title.
The recording from the #USil Career Day is still available on YouTube.
