What do I do professionally?
I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Silesia, exploring the mysteries of particle physics and cosmology. My research focuses on the origin and nature of neutrino masses and their mixing, the nature of dark matter, and matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe, among others. I also teach fundamental concepts of physics and some advanced topics in particle physics and high-energy physics.

What I enjoy most about working at the University of Silesia in Katowice is the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our research group fosters collaboration and curiosity, making it a pleasure to explore challenging topics together. The non-teaching staff have been incredibly helpful, assisting me with nonacademic matters and easing my transition. The campus’s vibrant ambience inspires creativity and productivity, making it an ideal place to work and grow.
My first day at work
My first day at the Institute of Physics, University of Silesia, was exciting and welcoming. I met my new colleagues, who shared their warmth and insights into academic life in Poland. We discussed my research on neutrino physics, exploring potential collaborations and project directions. Over coffee, I learned about the teaching methodology in Poland and how it encourages student engagement. I was introduced to the lecture halls and labs, envisioning how I would integrate fundamental concepts and advanced topics into my classes. The day ended with a deeper appreciation for the vibrant academic community I had joined and the opportunities ahead to contribute to research and education.
What suprised me?
After arriving in Katowice, I needed to get to Chorzów, so I confidently asked someone at the central station for directions. To my surprise, they looked puzzled and told me there was no such place nearby! Later, I realized the issue wasn’t geography—it was my English pronunciation of “Chorzów.” In Polish, it sounds more like Hor-zhuf! That was my first funny lesson about just how different Polish is, and I’ve been practising my pronunciation ever since.
What I like about Katowice?
What I love about Katowice is its perfect blend of culture and relaxation. The Jazzclub HIPNOZA is one of my favourite spots, with its cosy ambience making it the ideal place to unwind. The Culture Zone, featuring landmarks like the NOSPR concert hall and Spodek arena, showcases the city’s modern, creative energy. Katowice also surprises with its lush green spaces, such as Kościuszko Park and the nearby Silesian Park, offering a serene escape amidst the urban buzz.
