On 9 December 2022, the General Assembly of the Upper Silesian Literary Society in Katowice elected Prof. Marian Kisiel as its chair. The Upper Silesian Literary Society is a Polish socio-cultural organisation associating people actively practicing writing, as well as developing, supporting and disseminating literary culture.

The association was founded in Katowice in 1992 and it is referring to the 1892 society founded in Bytom, which ended its activity in 1920, after transforming into Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Nauk na Śląsku [Silesian Society of Friends of Sciences], to which it donated its achievements and assets. The Upper Silesian Literary Society carries out tasks related to the development of literary culture in the region. Since November 1995, the Society has been publishing the socio-cultural monthly ‘Śląsk’ [‘Silesia’], the longest published magazine in Upper Silesia after 1945. Prof. Marian Kisiel will formally take over its editorial office from the January 2023 issue.
