Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy is an interdisciplinary degree programme with a humanistic focus. Students gain knowledge in speech and language communication disorders. Studying in this degree programme allows students to acquire the knowledge necessary for the diagnosis, therapy, and prevention of speech disorders. Students with a passion for correct speech have the opportunity to learn about the regular development of speech, how to diagnose speech disorders and the methodology of therapeutic procedures. They also learn the principles behind effective therapeutic relationships with patients and teamwork. Learning these interesting issues is facilitated by an interesting curriculum, which includes elements of linguistics, medicine, psychology, and education enriched with the latest developments in Polish and world speech therapy. In addition, future speech therapists have the opportunity to work with educational and medical institutions, psychological and educational counselling centres, as well as private practices. They also have the opportunity to participate actively in interesting student research groups. The degree programme is divided into 1st and 2nd cycle programmes.

1st cycle studies focus on preparing students for work in educational institutions. 2nd cycle studies are intended as a programme to extend and deepen the knowledge gained during the course of 1st cycle studies in Speech Therapy and to help students prepare for work in healthcare institutions.

This degree programme at the University of Silesia is distinguished by specially prepared rooms in the new building of the Faculty of Humanities with one-way mirrors for speech rhythm, as well as other rooms that allow for professional teaching and research.
