We are pleased to announce that Magdalena Habdas, PhD, DLitt, from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Silesia, has published a chapter in the English-language academic monograph The Mortgage Credit Directive under Review, published in 2025 by Europa Law Publishing in Amsterdam and edited by Miriam Anderson and Esther Arroyo Amayuelas.
The monograph is an important, up-to-date study devoted to the experiences of European Union member states regarding the implementation and application of Directive 2014/17/EU (Mortgage Credit Directive – MCD). The authors analyze both the current effects of the regulation and areas requiring further changes, particularly in the context of the digitalization of the financial market, sustainable finance, new participants in the mortgage market, and challenges related to aging populations.
The chapter authored by Magdalena Habdas, PhD, DLitt, titled “Consumer Protection and Foreign Currency Mortgage Credit from the Perspective of Transposing the MCD 2014/17 in Poland”, presents Poland’s experience with transposing the MCD into national law. Particular attention is devoted to issues of consumer protection in the mortgage market, including the regulation of credit intermediaries, tied and bundled sales practices, the right of withdrawal, early loan repayment, and the issue of foreign currency mortgages.
Magdalena Habdas’s publication represents a significant contribution to the international debate on the future of mortgage regulation in the European Union, while also strengthening the presence of our Faculty’s scholarly output in prestigious international academic circles.
