T4EU Comparative Case Studies in Law

The T4EU Comparative Case Studies in Law is an international educational initiative developed within the T4EU alliance, bringing together law students from Saarland University and the University of Silesia. The program offers a unique opportunity to explore how different legal systems address similar issues through collaborative, comparative analysis.

The course is organized alternately at participating T4EU partner universities (including USAAR and US) and is primarily aimed at law students, who finished at least second year of studies. Participants are expected to have a basic level of English proficiency, as all activities are conducted in English within an international academic environment.

At the core of the program are three carefully selected case studies representing key areas of law:

  • civil law
  • administrative/constitutional law
  • criminal law

Students work in small, internationally mixed groups (approximately three – four participants from each partner institution). Supported by mentors—senior students or early-stage PhD candidates—they analyze how each case would be resolved in their respective legal systems. Through discussion and collaboration, participants develop comparative insights and a deeper understanding of legal diversity across jurisdictions.

In addition to the case study work, the program includes:

  • a concise introduction to comparative law,
  • a keynote lecture delivered by an expert in the field,
  • a range of extracurricular and social activities designed to foster integration and intercultural exchange.

The T4EU Comparative Case Studies in Law program not only enhances students’ legal knowledge but also strengthens their analytical, communication, and intercultural skills—preparing them for future careers in an increasingly globalized legal landscape.
