Rev. Prof. Jerzy Szymik receives honorary doctorate degree from the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow

It is with great joy that we received the news that the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow honoured Rev. Prof. Jerzy Szymik, a retired employee of our Faculty, with an honorary doctorate degree. Congratulations!

The ceremony of awarding the degree took place on 19 June. This was the 33rd title of this kind awarded by the Pontifical University of John Paul II. The event was led by Rev. Prof. Robert Tyrała, Rector of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow, and the laudatory speech was given by Fr. Prof. Jarosław Kupczak OP. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice, Abp. Adrian Galbas, PhD, Metropolitan of Katowice and Grand Chancellor of the Faculty of Theology, Rev. Jacek Kempa, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof., Dean of the Faculty of Theology of the University of Silesia, Rev. Prof. Leszek Szewczyk, Director of the Institute of Theology of the University of Silesia, as well as Rev. Wojciech Surmiak, PhD and Rev. Dawid Ledwoń, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Rev. Prof. Jerzy Szymik gave a master lecture on the presence and role of Christianity in the modern world, especially in Europe.
