Visibility

In accordance with the Development Strategy of the University of Silesia in Katowice, certain activities are carried out in order to increasing the visibility and position of the University of Silesia in Katowice in the region, Europe and the world. Open access to research results of our scientists is particularly important in this regard.

The concept of open science is in line with the assumptions of Research Excellence Initiative. Therefore, we have launched the program entitled Open Access, which allows to promote publications and research results at high scientific level, strengthening the impact of scientific activity of academics on the development of global science.

The competition is addressed to the employees conducting scientific activity at our University. Financing is commitment-based and can cover publication of scientific texts in open scientific journals. The maximum amount of one-off subsidy is PLN 15,000. Applicants in the competition are directors of institutes, who indicate articles written by representatives of particular disciplines intended for open access publication.

Call for proposals entitled „Visibility of Research Centres”

The call for proposals entitled „Visibility of Research Centres”, carried out as part of Research Excellence Initiative, is intended to increase the visibility and promote the scientific activities of research centres of the University of Silesia in Katowice. One of the tasks of Research Excellence Initiative is to support actions that contribute to strengthening research cooperation with highly renowned international scientific centres, as well as with the external environment.

A research centre may apply for the funding of research and development activities subject to submitting the report on activity in the previous year and sending the completed application, including the research and development plan for the particular research centre, as well as detailed schedule and cost estimate. The following features are subject to assessment: description of planned cooperation with the external environment and description of impact of the planned actions on the increased visibility of research centre in the region, Europe and around the world.

The actions must be consistent with the profile and research goals of the centre, and compliant with the strategy of the University of Silesia in Katowice. The overall amount allocated for this call of proposals is up to PLN 300,000. The applicant is the director of the research centre. We encourage you to submit funding applications.

Summary of „Open Access” call for proposals

The recruitment to “Open Access” call for proposals ended on 7 December 2020. Its goal is to strengthen the visibility of the results of scientific research conducted at the University of Silesia in Katowice by publishing them in Open Access-type scientific journals. 14 institutes entered the competition, submitting proposals for articles to be published in prestigious high-impact scientific journals. Directors of institutes requested for the funding in the overall amount of approximately PLN 900,000.
