University of Silesia in Katowice – the place where you can grow and develop your scientific career

What is the University of Silesia, and why is it worth joining us? USiL is one of the largest and fastest developing public universities in Poland, located in the Upper Silesia region. So if you choose to join us, you will work in one of the four cities: Katowice, Sosnowiec, Chorzów or Cieszyn, depending on the faculty. The University of Silesia offers 80 degree programmes in the 1st cycle, 2nd cycle, doctoral and post gradual studies, including international degree programmes taught in English, so you can share your knowledge with our students (we teach over 22 thousand people!).

As our employee, you will be a part of the institution that is becoming more and more international. Among others, USiL is a part of the Transform4Europe alliance formed by universities from Lithuania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Spain, Italy, Germany, Slovenia, Portugal, France and Poland, as a part of which students, academic and non-academic staff and regional stakeholders cooperate to jointly drive the development of Europe and the EEA through the regions.

In order to facilitate your work, the University of Silesia will provide you with modern laboratories, access to The Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library (CINiBA), assistance in applying for grants, a good work atmosphere and support in adaptation to work in Poland.

What is more, as an employee of the USiL, you will also have the possibility to learn about the region as we are present in the cultural life of the metropolis. The university cooperates with local businesses and third sector organisations, as well as with economic and public institutions, schools and educational institutions. Our university is a partner of the Academic Consortium Katowice – City of Science, created to transform the Upper Silesia into one of the leading European research and education centres. As a result of the joint efforts of the Consortium and the City of Katowice, the city was awarded the name of the European City of Science 2024.

And that is not all. Being a part of the University of Silesia in Katowice also provides the possibility to share and promote your knowledge and research results and have a lot of fun as a part of special events like The Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE – one of the largest popular science events in the country and Europe, organised since 2016 together with other universities and the City of Katowice (the event’s host city).
