The new Board of the Polish Meteorite Society was elected on 17 March 2026. The Society’s General Meeting of Members was held during the 14th Meteorite Conference in the Town of Koluszki. As a result, the position of the President was assumed by Krzysztof Szopa, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof., USil Faculty of Natural Sciences.
Krzysztof Szopa’s expertise revolves around the classification of meteorites and the study of extra-terrestrial matter. His work includes the co-description of Polish moldavites, an analysis of the fossil meteorite found in Lechówka, and a characterisation of the meteorite that fell in Drelów. It is worth noting that the Polish Meteoritic Society brings together scientists, as well as meteorite enthusiasts and collectors from all over Poland.
The Society was founded on the initiative of Prof. Łukasz Karwowski, who became its first president 24 years ago. The seat of the Society is the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
