Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to the Institute of Earth Sciences seminar, which will take place on May 14, 2026 (Thursday) at 13:00 in room 001.
Our guest speaker will be
Dr Ola Kwiecień (Northumbria University) – Assistant Professor in the School of Geography and Natural Sciences and a member of the Environmental Monitoring and Reconstruction (EnMaR) research group. Her research focuses on palaeoclimate and palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, with particular emphasis on carbonate archives and isotope geochemistry. She applies multidisciplinary approaches, combining geochemical analyses with sedimentary and palaeoenvironmental records, including lake sediments and speleothems. She is also actively involved in the editorial work of several international journals, including Sedimentology and Nature Communications Earth and Environment.
She will deliver a lecture entitled: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Publishing, But Were Afraid to Ask
Abstract: Publishing scientific paper can be an ordeal and it does have a random component of luck. I want to share few universal rules (followed by most of the editors) that might help you get your research safely and efficiently on the other side. It all starts with putting your work in a perspective and choosing the right journal, involves taking feedback seriously (even if you do not agree with it) and finally promoting your work once it is out. I will be happy to answer all your questions in an open discussion.
We would be delighted to see you at the seminar.
Kind regards,
Institute of Earth Sciences
