Theology: Pastoral Theology

Full-time studies, long-cycle studies

Language of instruction: Polish

The Pastoral Theology programme at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Silesia is a classic implementation of theological studies determined within the Catholic Church through the standards of Sapientia Christiana constitution. It is based on in-depth studies in philosophy (logic and theory of cognition, history of philosophy, anthropology, metaphysics, ethics) as an introduction to the proper study of theology, which is carried out in the context of reliable historical knowledge of the origins and development of Christianity. The core of the studies is biblical theology and systematic (fundamental, dogmatic and moral) theology. This is the foundation for the development of knowledge and skills in other disciplines, in particular such as spirituality, liturgy studies, canon law and Catholic social teaching.

What makes us stand out? What makes us stand out?

The competent academic staff is an unquestionable advantage of our programme. Its members include specialists involved in international theological and ecclesiastic bodies, conducting pioneering research in the field of theology, as well as providing interesting introduction to the world of theology. Many courses are also run by “practitioners”, who carry out a broadly understood theological mission on a daily basis. With us, not only will you find out about the world of theology and Church “from the outside”, but also get a taste of individual attempts to address the most important existential questions about the world, humans and God.

Where and what will you study? Where and what will you study?

The leading scientific discipline at the degree programme is theology. Its core is biblical and systematic (dogmatic, fundamental, moral) theology. However, its study is also based on solid philosophical and historical grounds, supplemented with a whole range of auxiliary disciplines (e.g. psychology of religion, pedagogics, sociology). We also provide the possibility to develop linguistic competencies both with regard to modern languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish) as well as ancient languages (Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Syrian).

The well-equipped library, located near the Faculty, is the one-and-only “place” for broadening your theological horizons.

Internships and traineeships Internships and traineeships

Students of Theology: Teacher Training Programme have their internships in primary schools and secondary schools, as well as pastoral traineeships in agreement with the Major Seminary in selected parishes of the Katowice Archdiocese.
