This year, for the fifth time, Katowice will become the hub of academic life during the Interuniversity Inauguration of the Academic Year! This unique event will take place on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, at 4 p.m. at the seat of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and will be preceded by the march of Rectors’ retinues through the city streets.
The programme for the joint celebration of the academic year’s inauguration by Silesian universities includes a range of unique attractions combining science, art and academic tradition. Among other things:
- A science town will be set up in Katowice’s Market Square – planned interactive science shows and experiments will inspire visitors to explore the world of science.
- We will see performances by academic song and dance ensembles, which will bring us closer to the spirit of Silesian culture.
- There will be a ceremonial march of the Rectors’ retinues from Katowice’s Market Square to the NOSPR seat – this is a unique opportunity to experience the essence of academic tradition and protocol.
