On Tuesday, 4 March 2025 at 5.30 p.m., at the Światowid studio cinema (ul. 3 Maja 7, Katowice), a screening of the film Nosferatu (132 min) combined with a discussion will take place. The event is organised as part of the ‘Film meetings with psychology’ series.
The film by Robert Eggers is a gothic story about a young woman, Ellen Hutter, who meets the titular Nosferatu—a vampire infatuated with her. To help in this situation, the eccentric “vampire hunter” Albin Eberhart von Franz is summoned. The film can be read as an evocation of 19th-century superstitions regarding madness and the treatment of various ailments, and, as Troy Rondinone notes in Psychology Today, Hutter, who opposes restrictions, can be considered a special type of heroine—the Victorian rebel.
The horror film features an all-star cast including: Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson and Simon McBurney.
The conversation after the film will be led by Justyna Lipka, MA from the Institute of Psychology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice.
More information about the event can be found on the Światowid cinema website.
