‘Transformers in schools – education for green transition and preserving mining culture in the region’ – closing gala

On 19 June at 9.00 a.m., the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia in Sosnowiec will host a gala closing the first edition of the project ‘Transformers in schools – education for green transition and preserving mining culture in the region’ financed by European Funds for transformation.

‘Transformers’ is the first comprehensive educational project of the University of Silesia dedicated to energy transition and climate change, in which over a thousand secondary school students participate, including from Katowice, Sosnowiec, Rybnik, Ruda Śląska, Mysłowice, Knurów and Wodzisław Śląski. The project is co-created by the Faculty of Natural Sciences (Iwona Jelonek, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof., Krzysztof Szopa, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof., and Radosława Tomaszewska, MSc) and the Faculty of Humanities (Marta Tomczok, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof.).

During the gala, lectures will be given by experts in the field of transition, including: doc. ing. Barbara Stalmachová, CSc. (VSB – Technical University of Ostrava) and Prof. Jacek Jania (University of Silesia). The results of selected competitions will also be announced during the event, including the ‘Transformers through the camera lens’ competition. The gala will include the performance of the band ‘Antynomia’ from the T. Kościuszko 1st Secondary School in Mysłowice.

The event will be held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Science, the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, the Mayor of Rybnik, the Mayor of Sosnowiec and the Mayor of Wodzisław Śląski, as well as the media patronage of Radio eM.
