Workshops as part of the International Stuttering Awareness Day – ISAD 2021

On the occasion of the International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD), free two-day workshops will be organised at the University of Silesia in Katowice. The workshops are held as part of the project “LOGOLab – Dialogue without Barriers”.

Two editions of the workshops are planned for different audiences. The first cycle of workshops entitled “Dialogue without barriers in contacts with children who stutter” will take place on Friday, 22 October 2021. The meeting is aimed primarily at representatives of the stuttering community, including parents of children who stutter, but it is also addressed to students of speech therapy and practicing speech therapists. The participants will listen to a lecture entitled “Support for children who stutter in communication – the Norwegian perspective”, and will also have the opportunity to participate in the premiere of the film “LOGOLab – Dialogue without barriers. How to support children who stutter in interpersonal communication”.  The meeting also includes a panel discussion with the operators of the project “LOGOLab – dialogue without barriers”. The panel is entitled “Dialog without barriers – how to talk about stuttering with (not only) a stuttering child” (programme).

The second cycle of workshops will be held on Saturday, 23 October 2021. “LOGOLab – an effective intervention in stuttering”, aimed mainly at practicing speech therapists and students of speech therapy; however, representatives of the stuttering community can also participate. Participants will listen to, among others, lectures given by Hilda Sønsterud, PhD from Norway (“Multidimensional individual stuttering therapy for adults – hhy it works”) and Erik Raj from the USA (“Summer camps for young people who stutter”) (programme).

  • For participation in the workshops “Dialogue without barriers in contacts with children who stutter” please insert “Application – 22 October” in the e-mail title;
  • For participation in the workshops “LOGOLab – an effective intervention in stuttering” please insert “Application – 23 October” in the e-mail title;
  • If you wish to participate in both of the workshops, please insert “Application – 22-23 October”.

The workshops will be held in a stationary form at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia in Katowice (ul. Uniwersytecka 4). Due to sanitary restrictions, a limit of 70 people is planned for each day. However, the number of participants depends on the epidemic guidelines in force at the time of the event. There is a possibility that the limit will change (then the order of applications shall determine the acceptance) The form of the meeting may also change – from stationary to remote.
