The next webinar of Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE will be held on 13 January 2021. Dr Katarzyna Kasperkiewicz from the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Silesia will tell about the immune system – our invisible shield. The event will be broadcast on Facebook. The lecture will be accompanied by a presentation. Then Dr Katarzyna Kasperkiewicz will answer selected questions asked on chat.
Dr Katarzyna Kasperkiewicz fromo the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Silesia studies interactions between bacterial antigenes and congenital immunity elements on the molecular level. She is currently managing part of the research (under a scientific consortium) related to the involvement of bacterial micro-bubbles produced by Yersinia enterocolitica bacilli in the activation of the complement component. The research is conducted in cooperation with scientific teams from the Institute of Medical Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Łódź, as well as Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy in Wrocław, financed by the National Science Centre under OPUS call for proposals. Dr Katarzyna Kasperkiewicz also develops her interests towards the improvement of methods for assessment of antimicrobial properties of modern biomaterials applied in medicine. She conducts this research together with scientists from the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków.
