On 7 May 2025, at 3.30 p.m., the third lecture will be held as part of the seminar on the methodology of research on antiquity.
The online lecture ‘Re-reading the Tale of Sinuhe: Ancient Poetry and Modern Commentary’ will be given by Prof. Richard B. Parkinson.
The researcher is Professor of Egyptology at the University of Oxford, a Fellow of The Queen’s College, Oxford, and a former Keeper in the Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan at the British Museum. His research interests include ancient Egyptian literature, primarily during the Middle Kingdom, as well as the history of the LGBTQ community in various cultures around the world. As one of the most distinguished specialists in the field of ancient Egyptian poetry, Prof. R. Parkinson is the author of numerous scientific publications on various aspects of the Egyptian literary legacy, including several books: The Tale of Sinuhe and Other Egyptian Poems. 1940–1640 BC (1997), Poetry and Culture in Middle Kingdom Egypt. A Dark Side to Perfection (2002), Reading Ancient Egyptian Poetry. Among Other Histories (2009), as well as a critical edition and an extensive commentary on the Egyptian text The Eloquent Peasant. He is also currently working on a commentary on another masterpiece of Egyptian literature Story of Sanehat.
The meeting will be led by Filip Taterka, PhD from the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
