The results of the international edition of Wienerberger Brick Award 2020 competition have just been announced. The Grand Prize was awarded to the new seat of Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia in Katowice. The building has also won the Sharing Public Spaces category.
Wienerberger Brick Award gives credit to original architectural objects with significant use of ceramic materials. The competition has two editions – Polish and international. The completed projects that won prizes in domestic competitions are consequently entered into the global edition of Wienerberger Brick Award.
In March 2019 year the Polish edition of the competition was settled. Its winner was the seat of Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Katowice, which was qualified to participate in the international edition of the competition and to represent Polish architecture.
The prizes are awarded every two years. The results of the international ranking were announced on 23 September 2020. The jury selected six projects, which were awarded in five categories: Feeling at Home, Sharing Public Spaces, Living Together, Working Together and Building Outside the Box. The winner of this year’s edition – building of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia – is a design jointly prepared by Baas Arquitectura, Grupa 5 Architekci and MAŁECCY biuro projektowe. The project combines the advantages of a modern building with universal features. Thanks to the preservation of historic buildings, the Film School fits the local context in a subtle way.
