Dear friends from Ukraine,
In Poland, on 1 August we will celebrate the 78th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. The insurgents showed great bravery and heroism. Although the uprising was a defeat in military terms, by joining the fight, the insurgents demonstrated their desire to regain and maintain independence. The fought for 63 days. Several thousand soldiers and over 150 thousand civilians died as a result of the fighting.
The Uprising began at 5 p.m., the so-called “W” hour. For many years, each anniversary of these events in Polish cities has been commemorated by activating alarm sirens. This year, it will also take place. We are aware of how many traumatic memories can be caused by unexpected sound of sirens, so today we want to warn you about this event and ask you to pass this information on. On Monday, 1 August the alarm sirens will be turned on at 5 p.m., we will hear a continuous sound for three minutes. This is a tribute to the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising. Just as the citizens of Ukraine are fighting for the borders of their country today, 78 years ago, Polish people initiated an uprising to liberate the capital from German occupation before the Red Army entered it, so we believe that you will show understanding for the commemoration of such an important date for us.

У Польщі 1 серпня буде відзначатися 78-а річниця Варшавського повстання. Повстанці виявили велику хоробрість і героїзм. Хоч і повстання закінчилося військовою поразкою, вступивши в боротьбу, повстанці продемонстрували своє бажання відновити та зберегти незалежність. Вони билися 63 дні. В результаті боїв загинуло кілька тисяч військових і понад 150 тисяч мирних жителів.
Повстання почалося о 17:00, так званій годині „W”. Вже багато років кожну річницю цих подій у польських містах вшановують увімкненням сирен тривоги. Так буде і цього разу. Ми знаємо, скільки травматичних спогадів може викликати несподіваний звук сирен, тому сьогодні ми хочемо попередити вас про цю подію та попросити переказати цю інформацію далі. У понеділок, 1 серпня о годині 17:00, сирени тривоги будуть ввімкнутими, три хвилини ми почуємо безперервний звук – це данина пам’яті героям Варшавського повстання. Так само, як сьогодні громадяни України борються за кордони своєї країни, 78 років тому поляки ініціювали повстання за визволення столиці від німецької окупації ще до вступу в неї Червоної армії, тож віримо, що ви з розумінням поставитеся до вшанування пам’яті такої важливої для нас дати.
