We coordinate Game Week as part of the European City of Science 2024

In the first half of November, Katowice will host Game Week, a real celebration for enthusiasts of games, gaming and game studies This initiative is part of the 50 Weeks in the City of Science programme and of the activities related to awarding Katowice the title of European City of Science 2024.

Game Week is coordinated by scientists and enthusiasts from the Game Studies Research Centre of the University of Silesia. The curator of the project is Michał Kłosiński, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof. – Director of the Game Studies Research Centre, and one of the producers is Weronika Cygan, who recently joined the research centre team.

Gaming initiatives will take place from 4 to 10 November 2024. The programme of events will include communication and scientific meetings. Participants from all age groups can also expect activities that will develop their knowledge and skills. The plan includes:

  • seminars on climate and transformation in games, as well as on nalysing games as tools for social change,
  • nationwide conference devoted to issues related to game studies,
  • workshops for youth and meetings on the use of games to develop knowledge, creative thinking and important skills.

Participants will also have the opportunity to face the challenge of creating a game under the supervision of representatives of the gamedev industry. Virtual reality enthusiasts will be able to enjoy initiatives related to the use of VR materials and goggles, while board game enthusiasts can count on game presentations combined with having fun with educational board games.
