On 13 January 2026, the University of Silesia in Katowice hosted a delegation from Changwon National University (CWNU) from the Republic of Korea. The meeting took place at the Rectorate of the University of Silesia and was dedicated to the development of academic and scientific cooperation between the two universities.
The Changwon National University was represented by:
- Kim Taeshik, PhD – Dean of International Affairs,
- Kim Youngchan, PhD – Vice Dean of International Affairs,
- Lee Sunghwan, PhD – Head of Global Operations,
- Im Sungho, PhD – Head of Office in Europe.
On the part of the University of Silesia, the delegation was received by:
- Tomasz Pietrzykowski, Vice-Rector for International and Domestic Cooperation of the University of Silesia in Katowice,
- Dawid Matuszek, PhD, Director of the Science Department
- Emilia Mielaniuk from the International Cooperation Development Department,
- Chang Il You, PhD, Head of the Centre for Poland-South Korea Cooperation of the University of Silesia.
During the meeting, the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was handed over, and possible directions for further activities were discussed, particularly in the areas of science and technology, engineering, and the future development of the university. The parties also noted the structural similarities between the Upper Silesia region and the city of Changwon, which is one of the key industrial centres of the Republic of Korea.
Changwon National University is a public university known for its strong links with industry, operating at the centre of South Korea’s industrial cluster. The visit of the CWNU delegation is part of the strategy to internationalise the University of Silesia and develop long-term cooperation with partners in Asia.
