Śląskie Centrum Studiów Górskich
The Silesian Centre for Mountain Studies at the University of Silesia in Katowice is an interdisciplinary research and education centre dedicated to the mountain environment and its transformation in the context of climate change and growing tourism. Its goal is to integrate natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences within the framework of Mountain Studies and to develop collaboration with national and international partners. The Centre will conduct research on topics including mountain environmental protection, tourism, mountain culture and heritage, as well as extreme sports such as alpinism and himalaism. Collaboration with institutions and experts, including the Wielki Człowiek Foundation and the community associated with the Himalayan Centre in Katowice, will be a key element of its activities. The project also involves utilising the scientific potential of the University’s researchers and the experience of the University of Silesia’s Centre for Polar Studies. The Centre aims to contribute to increasing the University’s prestige through research projects, educational development, and organising scientific and science communication events..
