Scientists from the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia in Katowice are implementing an international project entitled ‘Strengthening metropolitan cooperation and governance in Central Europe’ (MECOG-CE). The team consists of: Robert Pyka, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof.; Krzysztof Bierwiaczek, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof; Małgorzata Suchacka, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof and Zuzanna Neuve-Église, PhD. The project is financed from the Interreg Central Europe 2021-2027 programme. Representatives of the city of Brno (Czech Republic) are involved in the coordination of the project.

The aim of the initiative is to develop tools for effective cooperation and management in partner metropolitan areas, taking into account the specificity of urban areas in Central Europe. Thanks to this, it will be possible to increase the capacity of metropolitan areas to meet global challenges. The University of Silesia in Katowice, together with the Charles University in Prague, is responsible for preparing the analysis of the metropolitan dimension.

The kick-off meeting of the project took place from 29 to 31 May 2023 in Brno. Detailed information about the project can be found at: us.edu.pl/komunikaty/wzmacnianie-wspolpracy-i-metropolitalnego-wspolrzadzenia-w-europie-srodkowej.
