On 22 April 2026, the University of Silesia in Katowice and the SpeakLeash Foundation signed a cooperation agreement. The agreement focuses on joint activities at the intersection of science, education, and new technologies with particular emphasis on language models and cultural heritage.
The University of Silesia was represented by Katarzyna Trynda, PhD, Assoc. Prof., Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education. Sebastian Kondracki represented the SpeakLeash Foundation.
The SpeakLeash Foundation is the creator of Bielik—a family of Polish AI models developed under the Apache 2.0 open license, trained primarily on Polish-language data and available free of charge for commercial use.
Joint activities will include research projects, citizen science initiatives, testing AI solutions, and activities promoting Polish-language technology in the academic and cultural communities.
