This is a unique opportunity to recognise people who work at the University of Silesia and who shape the world of science and the arts, and who help build the renown of Silesian science in Poland and beyond. If you know a researcher or artist whose achievements deserve special recognition, submit their nomination today. And if you yourself are engaged in academic or artistic work at the University of Silesia then do not hesitate to nominate yourself as well.
The Silesian Science Award is granted for a lifetime of achievements or for achievements accomplished in the 2 years preceding the year in which the award is presented. In the ‘Staff’ category, nominations may be submitted in the following fields:
- engineering and technology,
- natural sciences,
- art,
- humanities,
- exact sciences,
- medical and health sciences.
The Silesian Scientific Award also has a category dedicated to PhD students If you are pursuing your education at one of the Doctoral Schools at the University of Silesia, or if you know a doctoral candidate who stands out in terms of their research activity, innovation, and commitment, now is the perfect time to nominate them!
The Silesian Scientific Award is an initiative launched by universities organising the Silesian Science Festival Katowice and has been an integral element of the Festival for many years. Nominees are selected in accordance with the internal procedures of each university, while the laureates are chosen by the Award Committee. In this edition, the Committee is chaired by Prof. Michał Krzysztofik, First Deputy Rector and Vice-Rector for Research at the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice. Representing the University of Silesia on the Committee is Agnieszka Turska-Kawa, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof., Vice-Rector for Research.
The winners will be announced during the 10th Silesian Science Festival Katowice.
Nominations at the University of Silesia are submitted via a dedicated form at https://formularze.us.edu.pl/site/index/464 by 5 May 2026 (11.59 p.m.).
People nominated to the Award may receive the following benefits:
- an article published in the University of Silesia Magazine featuring coverage of the Awards Gala, and nominees’ bios and research descriptions;
- a post on the University of Silesia website;
- tailor-made posts on USil social media dedicated to scientific and research activities;
- a post in social media of the Silesian Science Festival Katowice tailored to USil employees and PhD students nominated to the Award;
- publishing bio and the description of research on the website of the Silesian Science Festival Katowice;
- information published in a newsletter dedicated to the scientific activity of nominees.
The Award winner will receive:
- prize money,
- a trophy,
- a dedicated article published in the University of Silesia Magazine,
- all benefits available to the nominees of the Silesian Science Award.
We would like to recognise all researchers who submit their applications and receive positive recommendations from their respective institutes. Each candidate will be invited for an interview with one of the University’s media outlets, with the aim of promoting the achievements of our scholars within the academic community.
