At the European Fencing Championships in Antony, near Paris, Polish representative Alicja Klasik won a bronze medal in the women’s épée competition. The medallist is a student of Human Resource Management in Organisation at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia. For the 22-year-old fencer and three-time Polish champion, this is the greatest individual achievement of her career to date.

Following a successful group stage, she entered the main draw of the tournament as the top seed. In her bid to reach the final, she faced the experienced German Alexandra Ehler. For most of the nine-minute bout, the score remained close, but in the closing stages her opponent built up a two-point lead, winning 11–9.

In the same competition, another Polish representative, Andrzej Rządkowski, also achieved success, winning the silver medal in the foil tournament. More information is available on the website.
