Week #25: Silesia Week

Date: 24–30 June 2024

  • Curator: Lucyna Sadzikowska, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof. (University of Silesia in Katowice)
  • Producer: Ewelina Budzińska-Góra, MA (University of Silesia in Katowice)

Description of the week

Week #25 of 50 Weeks in the City of Science is the Silesia Week. The event is part of the European City of Science programme, which will last throughout 2024.

The week will consist of several autonomous thematic blocks, but together they will create a coherent image of Silesia. We would like to focus the participants’ attention on the historically, culturally and landscape-diverse Silesia. Every day of the week we would like to highlight one of the leading topics. And so we suggest reflection on:

  • the ‘fourth nature’ (Monday, 24 June);
  • the underground of Silesia (Tuesday, 25 June);
  • the ‘heart’ of Silesia (Wednesday, 26 June);
  • famous figures from Silesia (Thursday, 27 June);
  • the landscapes of Silesia (Friday, 28 June);
  • the waters of Silesia (Saturday, 29 June);
  • the culture of Silesia (Sunday, 30 June).
