The procedure for granting the honorary doctorate degree was initiated by the request of the Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice.
Jordi Savall – one of the most versatile musicians of his generation, the Catalan master on viola da gamba. An exceptional musician and composer, one of the most outstanding interpreters of early music, especially renaissance and baroque, a representative of authenticity in performing. Instrumentalist, the oeuvre of whose is the source of emotions, beauty, and spirituality. In 2008, Jordi Savall was appointed the European Union Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue and received the title of UNESCO Artist for Peace.

Due to the ceremony of receiving the honorary doctorate degree, the University of Silesia Press issued a publication „Jordi Savall. Doctor Honoris Causa Universitatis Silesiensis”.
