Agreement on Cooperation Between the University of Silesia and EPICHEM

On 30 April 2026, the University of Silesia in Katowice signed a cooperation agreement with EPICHEM Systems.

The University of Silesia in Katowice was represented during the signing ceremony by:

  • Prof. Tomasz Pietrzykowski – Vice-Rector for International and Domestic Cooperation,
  • Prof. Robert Musioł – Director of the Institute of Chemistry of the University of Silesia,
  • Maciej Kapkowski, PhD – employee of the Institute of Chemistry of the University of Silesia (Drug and Materials Design and Synthesis Team).

On behalf of EPICHEM, the agreement was signed by Ireneusz Winiarski – President of the Management Board, and Kamil Berdzik – Member of the Management Board.

The agreement marks an important step towards connecting science with industry and developing innovative and sustainable technologies for the chemical and petrochemical sectors.

The key areas of cooperation include:

  • development and transfer of technologies related to waste management (including PET and excess polyols such as glycerine and glycols),
  • work on modern fuel additives, adjuvants, and solvents for industry,
  • implementation of joint research and development projects at both national and international levels,
  • identification and acquisition of funding sources for innovation.

The partnership also includes the development of future workforce competencies through:

  • organisation of internships and placements for students,
  • co-creation of study programmes and diploma thesis topics,
  • involvement of EPICHEM experts in the teaching process,
  • support for student initiatives and academic entrepreneurship.

EPICHEM is a Polish company specialising in the comprehensive management of hazardous waste and the recovery of chemical raw materials, with nearly thirty years of experience in serving industry. The company operates according to the Total Waste Management model, covering waste collection and logistics, laboratory analyses, processing, recovery, and safe disposal – in full compliance with European Union regulations.

EPICHEM focuses on the processing of liquid and complex industrial waste streams, including solvents, rinse waters, paints, adhesives, varnishes, glycols, and other chemical waste. The company operates modern technological installations based on distillation, rectification, evaporation, filtration, and blending processes, supported by its own laboratory facilities and an experienced team of technologists.

Currently, EPICHEM is finalising a significant investment that will substantially increase the processing capacity of the plant, particularly in the area of liquid industrial waste management. This investment strengthens the company’s approach to the circular economy and the implementation of ESG goals. EPICHEM’s headquarters and installations are located in Kędzierzyn-Koźle, and the company cooperates with industrial partners from various industrial sectors across the country.
