The 33trd final of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity will take place this Sunday, 26 January. This year, the goal of the campaign is to purchase the latest diagnostic equipment that will help doctors fight cancer and other serious haematological diseases in children.
The University of Silesia once again joins the charity efforts. On our auctions you can buy a pendant which visited outer space, with the signature of Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, an entrance to the roof of the 80-metre-high ‘Żyleta’, a book from the collection of Prof. Ryszard Koziołek and the chance to record a podcast in a professional studio.

The subject of the auction is a space pendant with the signature of Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski. It is an object that combines science, technology and unique history.
In March 2024, Space Week took place in Katowice (European City of Science) with the participation of the Polish astronaut.
One of the main points of the programme was the launch of a stratospheric balloon, prepared by representatives of the WroSpace Association. Balloon with a pendant of the European City of Science Katowice 2024, signed by Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewiski and Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, Rector of the University of Silesia, rose to a height of 38,292 m above sea level and sent spectacular photos and videos to Earth.
The balloon launch was also combined with a scientific experiment prepared by members of the Genome Guardians Student Research Group from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia. The balloon contained plant material that will be analysed to check whether the stratospheric balloon flight influenced the morphological and physiological parameters of the analysed genotypes.
The pendant, which had the opportunity to travel in the stratosphere, is a real memento of this extraordinary event. Additionally, the auction winner will receive a photo showing the moment the astronaut signs the pendant and a photo of the pendant in the stratosphere.

The subject of the auction is the entrance to the roof of one of the most recognisable buildings in Silesia – ‘Żyleta’ in Sosnowiec.
‘Żyleta’ is the tallest academic building in Poland – it houses the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice. Rising to a height of 80 metres, it offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding area that will definitely become an unforgettable memory for the person able to admire it. The building is also the highest bungee jumping tower in Silesia.

The subject of the auction is a real gem from a private book collection – Kluska, Kefir i Tutejszy by Jerzy Broszkiewicz. It is a beloved childhood book, part of the collection of Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, Rector of the University of Silesia, known for his passion for literature and science. This edition is full of sentimental memories and historical values, which he has carefully preserved over the years.
The winner of the auction will have the opportunity to meet Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, who will present the book in person.
