Get to know us
The Faculty of Theology is characterised by its interdisciplinary approach, cosy atmosphere and the opportunity to meet people who share similar values. Many of the friendships formed here extend far beyond student life. We have proof! – ‘I met many wonderful people while studying theology, and I am still friends with several of them. I became particularly close to one of my classmates – she is now my wife. We got married while we were still studying, and we defended our master’s theses with our newborn baby in our arms’, says Michał Koźlik – radio and television journalist, voice-over artist, voice coach and graduate of our faculty.
An additional advantage is the fact that classes are taught not only by researchers and scientists but also by experienced practitioners in the fields of psychology, medicine and pedagogy. We also have specialists on board who can introduce you to the world of theology in a fascinating way. All this helps you to see the world more broadly and develop skills that will become your superpowers.
Our faculty is located in a modern building, where, in addition to lecture halls and classrooms, you will find a cafeteria. The location is great – we are based at ul. Jordana 18 in the centre of Katowice. There is also a well-equipped library nearby, which offers over 170,000 books! It is hard to imagine a better place to gain knowledge and broaden your horizons.
Become an expert in relationships and support
If you want to help others build strong and healthy relationships and are interested in, among other things, how to support families in a challenging world, we have a suggestion for you – Family Studies is a degree programme that you may find appealing. Depending on the level of study, two specialisations are available:
- Marriage and Family Counselling (1st cycle studies): You will learn the secrets of psychology, pedagogy and family law. You will learn how to diagnose problems and be a real support for couples and families.
- Mediation and Family Assistance (2nd cycle studies): Want to go a step further? Learn about the essence and process of family mediation and gain the tools to work as a family assistant.
Discover new depths and inspire others
Are you fascinated by reflections on faith, humanity and our place in the universe? Do you want to ask difficult questions and gain knowledge that will allow you to see the world from a broader perspective? Theology is not just a science – it is a journey that provides space for critical thinking and inspiring action. Our faculty offers three specialisations:
- Theology: Teacher Training Programme – this specialisation will prepare you for a career as a religious education teacher, providing you with not only a foundation in theology but also modern teaching skills.
- Theology: General Theology – you will expand your basic theology programme with modules of your choice.
- Theology: Pastoral Theology – designed for future clergy of the Catholic Church.
Discover our secret ingredient..
Lectures, classes and seminars are just the beginning – add action to the mix. This is the ingredient that will allow you to fully experience what it is like to study at our faculty. Create a recipe that is best for you from the elements below – choose the proportions according to your preferences.
- Develop your passion – by joining the research teams of the Institute of Theology, you can participate in scientific projects and focus on what makes you want to know more.
- Share knowledge – your discoveries and scientific achievements have power. You can share them in the Theological Library for Young Scientists series and in the Silesia superior. We also organise scientific conferences where you can present the results of your work.
- Learn languages – you can develop your English, German, French, Italian and Spanish skills, but that’s not all! Would you like to learn Latin, Greek, Hebrew or Syrian? We are here to help!
- Travel – foreign language skills are best put into practice. Our students take part in study trips to the United States, Italy, Canada and even distant Zambia.
- Get to know the world from the inside – we cooperate with many institutions that will allow you to see how theory can be put into practice. The long list includes the Municipal Social Welfare Centre in Katowice, Caritas of the Archdiocese of Katowice, the Polish Association for the Defence of Human Life and regional media.
What’s next after graduation? Time for your superpowers to change the world
The graduates of our faculty are people who understand the complex problems of the world and have the courage to act and change reality. They are characterised by great empathy and a willingness to help those in need, which is why many of them find employment in family counselling centres, children’s homes and municipal social welfare centres. They also thrive as religious education teachers in schools and are involved in pastoral centres and cultural institutions. Among our graduates are also people who have chosen a career in the media.
‘My first serious job was at Catholic Radio Plus, where my theological education was an asset. Later, I worked at Telewizja Salve, and then at the Redakcja Audycji Katolickich TVP (Catholic Broadcasting Department of the Polish Television) where I hosted the programme ‘Okiem Wiary’ (From the Perspective of Faith) on TVP Info for several years. I also worked at Polskie Radio, where I was a news journalist for nearly 10 years. I have now returned to Catholic media and am the head of news at Radio Warszawa. In addition, I am a voice-over artist, lending my voice to various productions, especially on religious and evangelical topics. I also teach conscious voice management and help build confidence in front of the microphone and camera’, explains Michał Koźlik, a graduate of Theology at our faculty, adding ‘After completing this degree programme, you can do a lot. It is useful in working with young people, in education, charity work or, as in my case, in journalism. A deeper understanding of ethical issues is useful in almost every profession. Theology can also be helpful in researching the history of religion and cultures.
Our graduates also find their dream jobs wherever people with a good head on their shoulders, a heart of gold and a can-do attitude are needed.
