Jestem anglistką i literaturoznawczynią zatrudnioną na stanowisku adiunkta w Instytucie Literaturoznawstwa Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach. Moje zainteresowania badawcze obejmują dyskursy podróżnicze, studia postkolonialne i reprezentacje Orientu w literaturze i sztuce zachodniej oraz współczesną kobiecą literaturę brytyjską i amerykańską. W 2014r. uzyskałam stopień doktora nauk humanistycznych na Uniwersytecie Wrocławskim. Moja monografia pt. A Mosaic of Misunderstanding: Occident, Orient, and Facets of Mutual Misconstrual została opublikowana w 2016r. przez wydawnictwo Peter Lang. Publikowałam artykuły naukowe, eseje i recenzje w czasopismach naukowych i recenzowanych tomach i kolekcjach wydawanych przez Routledge, Peter Lang, Berghahn i in. Jestem współredaktorką dwóch monografii naukowych i recenzentką zewnętrzną dla m.in. European Journal of American Studies, Interdisciplinary Literary Studies: A Journal of Criticism and Theory, Journal of Mediterranean Studies, Litteraria Copernicana, and Crossroads: A Journal of English Studies. Wzięłam udział w pięćdziesięciu międzynarodowych konferencjach naukowych w Wielkiej Brytanii, Niemczech, Hiszpanii i na Wyspach Balearskich, w Portugalii, Turcji, Francji, Belgii, Estonii, Chorwacji, Danii, Austrii, we Włoszech, na Malcie i Cyprze, w Maroku i w Polsce. Prowadziłam wykłady gościnne i warsztaty naukowe na uniwersytetach w Azji, Afryce, Europie i Anglii. Pełniłam funkcję promotora pomocniczego w dwóch przewodach doktorskich. Współorganizowałam pięć międzynarodowych konferencji naukowych w Polsce i zagranicą. W 2016r. otrzymałam Peter Lang Young Scholars Award za najlepszą monografię w dziedzinie humanistyki, a w 2012r. podczas studiów doktoranckich zostałam laureatką Stypendium Ministra dla Wybitnych Młodych Uczonych. Regularnie uczestniczę w wydarzeniach naukowych i popularyzatorskich takich jak Śląski Festiwal Nauki czy Noc Anglistów.

Julia Szołtysek, PhD

 I am an English philologist and literary scholar, working as an assistant professor at the University of Silesia in Katowice, Institute of Literary Studies. My research interests include travel discourses, postcolonial studies, representations of the Orient in Western literature and art, and contemporary British and American fiction by women. I hold a PhD degree from the University of Wrocław, Poland. My monograph A Mosaic of Misunderstanding: Occident, Orient, and Facets of Mutual Misconstrual was published in 2016 by Peter Lang Verlag. My research articles have appeared in international journals and refereed collections published by Routledge, Peter Lang, Berghahn and others. I am also the co-editor of two academic volumes and external reviewer for i.a. European Journal of American Studies, Interdisciplinary Literary Studies: A Journal of Criticism and Theory, Journal of Mediterranean Studies, Litteraria Copernicana, and Crossroads: A Journal of English Studies. I have participated in fifty international conferences held in the UK, Germany, Spain and the Balearic Islands, Portugal, Turkey, France, Belgium, Estonia, Croatia, Malta, Italy, Cyprus, Denmark, Austria, Morocco, and Poland. I have been giving guest lectures and conducting workshops at various British, European, Asian and African universities and research centres. I have been a doctoral advisor in two PhD theses written in the field of literary studies. I have worked on organizing and scientific committees of five international conferences. In 2016 I was the recipient of the Peter Lang Young Scholars Award for Best Monograph in the Humanities, and in 2012 during my PhD studies at the University of Wrocław, Poland, I was awarded the Scholarship of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for Outstanding Young Scientists. I regularly participate in academic events such as The Silesian Science Festival or The English Philologists’ Night.
