This year’s 13th Katowice-Debrecen Winter Seminar on Functional Equations and Inequalities will be held in Zakopane, from January 30 to February 2, 2013.
Nowadays, the theory of functional equations and inequalities and their applications yield and independent and substantial field of mathematical research. The mathematical schools of scholars, both in Debrecen and Katowice, working in this domain are viewed as the worldwide strongest groups in the field. The beginnings of scientific cooperation of these two centers go back to midsixties of the last century. The scientific discussions during the international meetings, short individual scientific visits and joint publications belonged to the typical forms of that cooperation.
Some 14 years ago, wishing to intensify it, the mathematicians from these two centers initiated a line of annual seminars organized alternately in Poland and Hungary. So far the 12 Seminars (6 in Poland and 6 in Hungary) have proven that this idea happened to be extremely fruitful resulting, among others, in numerous joint papers quoted, in particular during the most prestigious international annual ISFE symposia.
These results yield also an important source of scientific inspiration four numerous mathematicians. Each time the proceedings are edited, both in the traditional form in the journal Annales Mathematicae Silesianae and electronically on the websites of the Silesian University as well as at the University of Debrecen.
