15th formal academic concert to celebrate the University of Silesia Day

His Magnificence Rector of the University of Silesia prof. zw. dr hab. Wiesław Banyśinvites to the 15th formal academic concert to celebrate the University of Silesia Day. The Concert will be held on 11 June 2011 (Saturday) at 5 pm. in the concert hall of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (address: ul. Zacisze 3).


Programme for the concert entitled ‘Opera … is a female’ includes arias, duos, choruses and overtures from the following operas: ‘Carmen’ (G. Bizet), ‘Eugene Onegin’ (P. Tchaikovsky), ‘Tosca’, ‘La Bohéme’ and ‘Madama Butterfly’ (G. Puccini), ‘Samson and Delilah’ (C. Saint-Saëns) and ‘Nabucco’ and ‘La Traviata’ (G. Verdi).


Performers: The Zabrze Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and the University of Silesia Student Choir ‘Harmonia’, Katarzyna Oleś-Blacha – soprano, Anna Wiśniewska-Schoppa – soprano, Anna Lubańska – mezzosoprano. Conductor – Wojciech Rodek, choir director – dr. Izabella Zielecka-Panek. The concert will be hosted by dr. Małgorzata Mendel.


During the event prof. zw. dr hab. Wiktor Zipperwill give a lecture entitled ‘Marie Skłodowska-Curie – an extraordinary woman’.


The programme for the event also includes the ceremony of awarding Medals of the University of Silesia. The laureates are prof. Manfred Neumann and prof. Gunnar Borstel from the University of Osnabrück.


 


Entry is by ticket only.
