The University of Silesia in Katowice has received the Global Leadership Award given by the Climate Law and Governance Initiative in recognition of the excellent organisation of Climate Law and Governance Day 2018, which was held at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia. The event was part of last year’s edition of COP24 climate summit in Katowice.
The award was presented by Prof. Dr Marie Claire Cordonier Segger – Executive Secretary of the Climate Law and Governance Initiative, Cambridge University professor, and t Ricardo Alonso Garcia – Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid. On behalf of the University of Silesia, the award was received by Assoc. Prof. Tomasz Pietrzykowski, Professor of the University of Silesia – Vice-Rector for International and Domestic Cooperation and Magdalena Stryja, MA (attorney at law) representing the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Silesia, as well as Polish Bar Council and Center for International Sustainable Development Law, who led one of thematic panels during the Climate Law and Governance Day 2019. This year’s conference was also attended by Dr. Anna Budzanowska – General Director at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Assoc. Prof. Michał Kania – Plenipitentiary of the Rector for Cooperation in the Framework of Public-Private Partnerships.
Global Leadership Award for the University of Silesia is the recognition of our participation in international discussions on the risks of global climate changes, as well as involvement in ecology and legal protection of animals.
The award is also a form of appreciation of the institutions which constantly cooperate with the University of Silesia, and which supported the organisation of last year’s conference, i.e.: Polish Bar Association, Regional Bar Association, Metropolis GZM, Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Katowice and Tramwaje Śląskie SA.
The awarding ceremony of Global Leadership Award took place during this year’s climate conference COP25 organised in Madrid.
