Prof. Tomasz Pietrzykowski, Vice-Rector for International and Domestic Cooperation at the University of Silesia in Katowice, will supervise the work of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), as well as hold the position of the representative of Minister in charge of Higher Education in the Agency’s Board. He received his appointment on 21 May 2020.
The tasks of the Board, whose term of office is 4 years, include formulating proposals for directions of the Agency’s operation and development, expressing opinions about reports on its activity, and periodically assessing progress in implementing action plans.
The Board is one of two bodies of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange. It consists of the representatives of Prime Minister, Minister in charge of Higher Education, Minister in charge of Science, Minister in charge of Public Finances, Minister in charge of Economy, Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland, National Representation of PhD Students, Students’ Parliament of the Republic of Poland and General Council for Higher Education.
The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, which was established in 2017, acts for the benefit of internationalisation of Polish science. Its purpose is to support the processes of international research cooperation and academic exchange, as well as distribute the information on Polish higher education and promote Polish language abroad.
Prof. Wiesław Banyś from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Silesia in Katowice, Rector of the University of Silesia in 2008-2016, is also a member of the Agency’s Board, as the representative of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland.
