Almost 1,600 scientists from around the world, including the University of Silesia in Katowice, sent an open letter to the European Commission regarding the construction of a wall on the Polish-Belarusian border.
“As scientists and experts in the protection and management of natural environment resources, we appeal to the European Commission to take all possible steps to immediately stop the construction of the wall on the Polish-Belarusian border until an assessment of the impact of this project on the the coherence of the Natura 2000 network and the design of this investment in such a way as to minimise the impact on valuable species and natural habitats”.
