Minister of National Education awarded the highest category A+ to more scientific disciplines at our University – literary studies and music. Category A was awarded to earth and environmental sciences and pedagogy, and category B+ to sociological sciences, fine arts and art conservation.
In July 2022, we learned the results of the evaluation of the University of Silesia. At that time, the highest category A+ was awarded to political science studies and administration. In the case of disciplines the results of which came close to a higher category, their representatives could appeal against the decision of the Minister of National Education. Some of the appeals against the results have already been considered.
The subject of the last evaluation was, for the first time, scientific disciplines, not faculties. In the case of our University, 25 disciplines were taken into account in the humanities, engineering and technology, social sciences, exact and natural sciences, theology and arts. Scientific categories are awarded to individual disciplines: A+, A, B+, B or C. The position of a given unit in the higher education system in Poland depends on the category obtained, including e.g. the right to confer scientific degrees and titles. The evaluation took into account the individual achievements of the scientists in the five-year period (2017-2021).
