Biological or chemical contamination

Notify the facility administrator or a security guard, who will inform the appropriate services about the emergency (indicate the contaminated location/number of people injured).

You can also notify the appropriate services directly by calling the emergency number 112 or 32 605 73 10 – the Specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group Katowice-Piotrowice.

  • remain in the facility;
  • notify other people about the emergency;
  • close doors and windows;
  • turn off the air conditioning and fans, seal the vents, close the vents in the window frames;
  • find rooms without windows;
  • avoid staying in basements and other low-lying parts of the building;
  • turn on the radio or television (preferably a local station/channel);
  • use personal protective equipment (cover your nose/mouth with a damp cloth/scarf, etc.);
  • wait for the arrival/instructions of the emergency services!

  • find the nearest accessible building;
  • if possible, move perpendicular to the wind direction, protect your respiratory tract (e.g. breathe through a handkerchief, tissue, etc.);
  • allow endangered passers-by into the building;
  • after finding shelter, wash your face, hair and hands thoroughly, clean your eyes and ears;
  • in case of contact with hazardous substances, leave outer clothing and shoes in front of the building.

  • do not touch or smell suspicious objects, do not clean up powder, do not wipe off liquid;
  • to prevent the substance from spreading, cover it with, for example, a blanket;
  • close windows and doors and turn off the air conditioning, prevent drafts;
  • leave the room and do not let other people into it;
  • wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water (do not touch your face, eyes, mouth with unwashed hands);
  • remove any clothing that has been in contact with the suspicious substance and place it in a plastic bag;
  • take a shower (if you have access to one);
  • after coming into contact with suspicious substances, do not eat, drink or smoke.

  • turn off fans and air conditioning in the entire area;
  • close windows and doors, and leave the room;
  • turn off the air conditioning in the building;
  • if possible, make a list of all people present and make it available to the emergency services.
