Węgiel Film Festival is an international festival of short films organised for 19 years by students of Film and Television Production of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia in Katowice.

The event will last from 12 to 15 May 2022. As part of this year’s edition, 15 feature films and 10 documentaries will be presented.

What is more, the festival will host the first film school industry fair in Poland – Student Film Market dedicated to current and future students. The aim of the fair is to create an exhibition space for film schools, enable contact between students of various universities, and give them an opportunity to meet representatives of large and small film companies operating on the Polish market. The Student Film Market is also a great opportunity to present new organisations established by students and graduates who want to build their position on the market. The idea behind the organisers is to create a nationwide brand, available to all young filmmakers, regardless of their experience and school they graduated from.

Węgiel Film Festival is a local educational and professional space for the international film industry. The festival initiates cooperation of many students of art faculties from Poland and abroad, as well as people with a position in the industry. Through the international competition of film works, pitching, shows of student art projects, as well as trade fairs with masterclass events conducted by specialists, the fair will also facilitate an exchange of experiences and knowledge between young filmmakers.
