85th Meeting of the Ecological Thought Club

On 13 June 2023 at 5.30 p.m. in the Silesian Botanical Garden in Mikołów (ul. Sosnowa 5) the 85th meeting of the Ecological Thought Club will take place. The guest of the event will be Wiktor Kotowski, PhD, DSc, Associate Professor of the University of Warsaw – biologist, specialist in the ecology of wetlands and methods of their protection and natural restitution, co-founder of the Centre for Wetland Protection.

Prof. Wiktor Kotowski deals with the functioning of ecosystems and the scientific basis of nature conservation, especially in the context of reducing climate change and adapting to it. He is a member of the Committee of Environmental and Evolutionary Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Scientific Council of the Biebrza National Park, a member of the boards of the associations of the Centre for Wetland Protection, the Polish Ecological Society, the International Mire Conservation Group, and an expert of the Fota4Climate foundation. Winner of the Popularizer of Science competition in the Scientist category (2022). For years he has been involved in the communication of ecology in the media, he is also a co-author of the open e-textbook “Klimatyczne ABC” [Climatic ABC] published by the University of Warsaw. He believes that it is necessary to combine scientific objectivity, political pragmatism and activist involvement in activities for nature and climate. He actively supports the activities of climate activist movements, such as Extinction Rebellion or Youth Climate Strike.

The conversation with the guest will be led by Prof. Piotr Skubała from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia and Ryszard Kulik, PhD from the Laboratory for All Beings.

The event will be broadcast via Facebook and on the YouTube Channel. Contact with the viewers on the above-mentioned platforms will be provided by Barbara Wojtaszek – Chair of the Ecological Thought Club Foundation, Polish and English teacher, environmental educator, activist of the Silesian Climate Movement.
