The University of Silesia in Katowice and the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE became partners of the “Granatowe Góry” Jerzy Pilch Word Festival, which will take place in Wisła On 28-30 May 2021. The goal of the event is the promotion of Jerzy Pilch, Polish writer, columnist, playwright, and screenwriter, the winner of the Nike Literary Award in 2001 for Pod Mocnym Aniołem (The Mighty Angel).
The programme includes author meetings, debates, workshops, concerts, and theatre performances. The event will feature over 60 writers. Employees of our University will be guests as well. Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, literary scholar, the Rector of the University of Silesia, the chair of the “Granatowe Góry” Festival Programme Council, on 29 May (Saturday) will participate in the event Literature – wisdom or heresy?, during which, together with Evangelical clergyman Waldemar Szajthauer, will discuss religion and literature as ways of describing the world. On 29 May at 2 p.m., Prof. Ryszard Koziołek will host the talk with Katarzyna Kubisiowska, the biographer of Jerzy Pilch, and Artur Domosławski, the author of the biographies of Ryszard Kapuściński and Zygmunt Bauman. On 30 May (Sunday) at 3:30 p.m., Zbigniew Kadłubek, PhD, DLitt, Associate Professor, literary scholar, and the director of the Silesian Library in Katowice, will be featured in the third part of the event How to describe Silesia?. At the end of the festival, at 5 p.m., there will be the AHHA piano concert for Pilch. Agata Hołdyk, PhD, and Aleksandra Hałat, PhD, from the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science, will play an author selection of Jerzy Pilch favourite songs, from Bach to pop, in arrangement for two pianos.
