The film Silent Friend (Germany, Hungary, France, 2025, 147 mins) will be screened on Tuesday 19 May 2026 at 5.30 p.m. at the Światowid arthouse cinema (ul. 3 Maja 7, Katowice). The event is organised as part of the ‘Film Meetings with Psychology’ series.
In the heart of the university’s botanical garden stands a magnificent ginkgo tree (Ginkgo biloba), which over the course of a century becomes a silent witness to and participant in the stories of three strangers. A determined young woman fights for a place at the botany department, seeking refuge in the shade of the tree from the prejudices of a male-dominated world of science. A lonely student, who has never paid attention to plants, finds a foothold in its silent presence following a turbulent period in his life. A neurologist from Hong Kong, influenced by his contact with the tree, begins to question his scientific convictions, discovering a deep connection between the visible and the intangible.
Silent Friend is a film that soothes, inspires and opens our eyes to the things that slip unnoticed in our daily lives. It allows us to immerse ourselves in a story full of peace, beauty and emotional depth, reminding us of the powerful way nature affects us.
The post-film discussion will be led by Justyna Lipka, MA, from the Institute of Psychology of the University of Silesia in Katowice.
Further information about the event is available on the Światowid Cinema website.
