The official award ceremony for the Professor Józef Pieter Award will take place on 14 October 2023 at 5 p.m. in Silesian Theatre.
During the event, the finalists from the first edition of the award will be presented and the winner will be announced and presented with a cash prize of PLN 20,000 funded by the Józef Pieter Foundation. The event will conclude with a musical act by DUO SHUM: Lisa Strauss (cello) and Anastasia Rizikov (piano).
The finalists of the Professor Józef Pieter Award are:
- Edyta Duffek — English language teacher at the Stefan Żeromski Secondary School No. 2 in Dąbrowa Górnicza;
- Ewa Wawoczny — Polish language teacher at the Primary School No. 1 with Integration Departments in Racibórz;
- Katarzyna Paliga — teacher and librarian at the Alfred Szklarski Primary School No. 29 with Sports Departments in Dąbrowa Górnicza;
- Halina Pospieszałowska — teacher at the Fryderyk Chopin Music School in Bytom and at the Karol Szymanowski State Secondary School of Music in Katowice;
- Krzysztof Smyczek — teacher at the Jan III Sobieski School Complex No. 6 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój and in the Practical Training Centre in Jastrzębie-Zdrój.
The Professor Józef Pieter Award is awarded annually to an outstanding teacher who works in a primary or secondary school in the Silesian Voivodeship. It is presented to individuals whose work demonstrates the fundamental importance of education for the development of children and young people; who effectively share their love of knowledge, combine the qualities and skills of outstanding subject teachers and committed educators; and are open-minded, tolerant and fair. Thus presenting attitudes and values close to the patron of the award, Professor Józef Pieter.
